AEC Youth Assembly – Martinique 2018

The AEC Youth Secretariat is delighted to confirm that the AECYA 2018 will be held in Martinique from July 10 – 23, 2018. The theme for AECYA 2018 is “Youth Transforming the Caribbean Family.” The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in Fort-de- France in collaboration with the Secretariat is in the process of planning and preparing for our 6th AECYA. We are expecting about 1600 youth to participate in the upcoming Assembly.

The theme for the AECYA is “Youth Empowered to Transform the Caribbean.”  The theme is influenced by Pope Francis’ “Amoris Laetitia” on love in the family.  This forms part of the AEC Youth Commission’s 5 year plan for renewal of family life in the Caribbean.  It is our belief that the key to transforming society is transforming the family.

It is the dream of the AEC Secretariat that there be a significant presence of clergy and religious from the entire AEC and the Youth Assembly.  It is hoped that all delegations will travel without at least one (1) priest and one (1) religious to accompany the youth and young adults.

The total cost for the Dominican contingent is EC$1,100.00/person. Please note there is a possibility this fee may be further reduced based on special concessions received from merchants. Any further discounts will be communicated no later than January 2018.  This cost will cover travel via Express des Iles Fast Ferry, accommodations, food, ground transportation, travel insurance, group t-shirts and printed material.  Pre-Registration will be available on the Diocesan Youth Website beginning January 2017.  A deposit of EC$100.00 will be due by September 30th, 2017.

The age range for the Assembly is 16 – 35 but participants between 16 – 18 will require a notarized consent form from their parents or guardians.  Contingents with minors will require a ratio of one adult for every ten minors.  All participants over the age of 35 will have the opportunity to travel as adult leaders and chaperones.  The Diocesan Youth Commission is making a special appeal to young married couples and members of the Family Life Commission, Engaged Encounter and Marriage Encounter Movement to join the contingent.

The Diocesan Youth Commission will be organizing a programme of preparation for the Assembly beginning in Sept. 2017.  The Dominican Contingent will be assigned a Chapter to study from Pope Francis’ “Amoris Laetitia”.  We will be required to prepare an interactive presentation on the assigned chapter.  Copies of this document will be made available to key leaders in the parishes.  The contingent will be expected to prepare cultural presentations and will also be assigned to lead various liturgical celebrations.
